CladWool Mineral Wool Insulation Board
Cladwool MD is a stone wool slab designed for thermal, acoustic and fire insulation in internal and external building applications. It provides a declared thermal conductivity of ≤0.035W/mK and is classified A1 for reaction to fire. Suitable for use in external and partition walls within ETICS systems, monolithic and brick walls, jambs, attics, and staircases.
Cladwool MD is a stone wool insulation slab intended for use in both internal and external building applications where thermal, acoustic and fire performance are required. It is supplied in slab form across a range of thicknesses from 20mm to 190mm. The product is designed for inclusion within external thermal insulation systems (ETICS), external monolithic and prefabricated wall types, jambs, attic spaces and staircases. All stated characteristics below are taken directly from the Technical Data Sheet.
Thermal Characteristics
The declared thermal conductivity is ≤0.035W/mK. Thermal resistance values are provided for thicknesses from 20mm to 150mm. For example, a 20mm slab provides a thermal resistance of 0.55m²K/W, increasing up to 4.25m²K/W at 150mm thickness.
Mechanical and Physical Characteristics
Cladwool MD is manufactured to EN 13162:2012+A1:2015, with declared performance values including:
-
Thickness tolerance: Class T5, with tolerances of -1mm/+3mm or -1%/+3mm depending on depth.
-
Dimensional stability (DS(70,90)): ≤1.0.
-
Compressive stress at 10% deformation (CS(10/Y)): 30kPa for 20–99mm slabs, and 40kPa for 100–190mm slabs.
-
Tensile strength perpendicular to faces (TR): ≥10kPa for 20–49mm; ≥15kPa for 50–190mm.
-
Point load at 5mm deformation (PL(5)): NPD.
-
Water absorption: Short-term absorption WS ≤1.0kg/m²; long-term absorption WL(P) ≤3.0kg/m².
-
Water vapour transmission: Class MU1.
-
Sound absorption index: αw 0.80 for 30–190mm thickness.
-
Predicted density: 110kg/m³.
Fire Classification
The slab holds a reaction to fire classification of Euroclass A1. This applies to its use for fire insulation applications such as attics and staircases, as explicitly described in the TDS.
Dimensions
The product is available in the following nominal sizes:
-
Length: 1000mm or 1200mm
-
Width: 600mm
-
Thickness: 20–190mm across the range
Intended Applications
Uses listed in the TDS include:
-
External and partition walls insulated within ETICS systems
-
External monolithic, prefabricated and brick walls
-
Jamb insulation
-
Fire insulation of attics (A1 classification)
-
Acoustic and fire insulation of staircases (A1 classification)
These applications are not extrapolated beyond what is explicitly stated.
Installation and Site Conditions
The TDS notes the following installation considerations:
-
Do not apply if frost is forecast within 24 hours.
-
Not to be applied in wet conditions.
-
Do not use in temperatures below +5°C or above 25°C.
-
Avoid application on elevations in direct sunlight or on substrates that are hot.
-
Coverage rates are approximate and do not include allowances for wastage or uneven substrates.
