Tecnic® Silicone 825 is a low modulus, neutral cure, alcoxy, odourless silicone sealant for non-structural building joints, including sanitary applications and pedestrian walkways. It adheres to porous and non-porous substrates without priming and conforms to 11600 F+G. Movement accommodation is ±25%. Reaction to fire is Class E. Supplied in 380ml cartridges. Suitable for sealing joints in buildings and sanitary areas where a neutral cure, low modulus silicone is required.
Tecnic Silicone 825 is a neutral cure, alcoxy-based silicone sealant intended for non-structural joint sealing applications in buildings and pedestrian walkways. It adheres to many porous and non-porous substrates without the need for primer, although adhesion tests are advised. The sealant meets the requirements of EN15651-3:2012 for sanitary joints (Class E) and conforms to the requirements of ISO 11600 F+G.
Product Features and Performance
The sealant accommodates movement up to ±25%, with movement factors of 50% for butt joints and 100% for lap joints, subject to not exceeding the stated directional limits. Elastic recovery is greater than 80% (ISO 7389). Additional performance characteristics stated include:
-
Compressive modulus at 10% (ISO 11432): 0.35MPa
-
Tensile adhesion strength at break: 0.5MPa
-
Tensile modulus at 100% elongation (ISO 8339, 23°C): 0.3MPa
-
Elongation at break (ISO 8339, 23°C): 400–500%
-
Peel adhesive strength: 6KM/m
-
Shrinkage: <5%
-
Hardness Shore A: 20–30
-
Reaction to fire: Class E
-
Loss of volume: ≤20%
-
Resistance to flow: ≤3mm
-
Durability: Pass
Cure depth progresses approximately 2mm in 1 day, 6mm in 3 days, and 9mm in 7 days under stated conditions. Skinning time is typically 30–45 minutes. The service temperature range is -50°C to +150°C, with an application temperature of +5°C to +40°C. Specific gravity is stated as 1.33–1.37.
Intended Applications
The sealant is intended for sanitary and general building joints where a neutral cure silicone is required. It may be used on a range of building substrates including glass, metals, plastics, wood, concrete, and other alkaline surfaces, subject to appropriate preparation. Joint sizing guidance is provided for correct installation:
-
Minimum joint depth: 5mm
-
Depth of 5mm for joints up to 10mm wide
-
Depth equal to half the width for joints 10–20mm
-
Minimum 10mm depth for wider joints
Surface Preparation and Priming
Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from dust, grease, and contaminants. Recommended cleaning methods include:
-
Glass: degrease with alcohol or MEK
-
Aluminium, light alloys, stainless steel: degrease with alcohol or MEK
-
Other metals: lightly abrade then degrease
-
Plastics: use a degreasing agent recommended by the plastics manufacturer
-
Wood: brush and remove dust
-
Concrete and alkaline surfaces: lightly abrade and remove dust
Priming is not required for most substrates. Where immersion may occur or adhesion is insufficient, SILICONE PRIMER P1 is advised for porous substrates and SILICONE PRIMER NP2 for non-porous surfaces.
Installation Considerations
Joint dimensions should be calculated in line with BS6213 using the formula provided in the data sheet. Sealant should not be used with certain materials, including bitumen asphalt, neoprene, and substrates that bleed oils or plasticisers. It is not suitable for aquarium construction, mirror bonding, swimming pool joints, or food-grade applications. The product is non-overpaintable
Handling and Storage
Cartridges should be stored unopened between +5°C and +30°C. Storage outside these temperatures may significantly reduce shelf life. Shelf life is 12 months from manufacture.
Cleaning
Uncured sealant may be removed using white spirit. Cured product can be removed using Everbuild Silicone Eater.
Packaging
Supplied in 380ml cartridges. Coverage at a 9x9mm fillet joint is approximately 5 linear metres.
