Fix & Fill Expanding Foam is a one-part polyurethane aerosol foam for filling, insulating and fixing applications in construction. It expands on application and can be cut, sawn or plastered after curing within stated temperature conditions. Suitable for filling gaps around frames, penetrations and services, as well as fixing door frames, window sills and timber structures.
Fix & Fill Expanding Foam is a one-part polyurethane foam supplied in 500ml and 750ml aerosol cans. The product expands on application by up to 150% of its original volume and is intended for filling, fixing and insulating tasks in construction settings. Once cured, the foam can be cut, sawn or plastered after approximately one hour when applied at temperatures between 5°C and 30°C.
The foam forms a medium-fine cell structure and is suitable for a range of substrates including stone, brick, concrete and plaster. It is designed for manual application using the supplied nozzle.
Intended Uses
The foam can be used for:
-
Filling gaps around pipe penetrations, window frames, door frames, electrical chases and deep joints prior to sealant or plaster application.
-
Filling irregular openings or gaps in masonry and similar substrates.
-
Fixing door frames, timber elements, window sills, thresholds and window frames.
-
Insulating behind exterior cladding, soffits and barge boards.
Technical Characteristics
The product provides a cutting time of approximately 150 minutes for a 30mm bead and a tack-free time of around 10 minutes. Full load-bearing stability is reached after approximately 24 hours for a 30mm bead. Expansion volumes are stated as 41 litres for a 750ml can and 27 litres for a 500ml can.
The working temperature range for application is 5°C to 30°C, with an optimal temperature of 20°C for both the can and the substrate. Once cured, the foam withstands long-term temperatures from -40°C to +80°C and short-term exposure from -40°C to +100°C. The product is classified as B3 under building material classifications.
Preparation
All surfaces must be clean, sound and free from dust and loose particles. Substrates should be moistened with water to support the curing process.
Application Guidance
The can must be shaken well before use (approximately 20 shakes). The nozzle should be carefully fixed to the can without overtightening. Application must always be carried out with the can inverted.
Cavities should only be partially filled, allowing for further expansion. Excess uncured foam can be removed with Everbuild® Foam Cleaner. Once cured, the foam can only be removed mechanically or using a suitable remover such as FOAM EATER. When used for fixing door frames, adequate support must be maintained until the foam is fully cured.
Storage and Handling
The product must be stored upright between 10°C and 20°C and protected from direct sunlight. Containers must not be exposed to temperatures above 50°C, pierced or burned, even after use. The aerosol is a pressurised container and must be stored as a flammable liquid. Shelf life is 12 months in unopened, correctly stored containers.
Limitations and Safety Considerations
-
Application should not take place below 5°C.
-
Spills should be cleaned immediately using the specified cleaner.
-
Re-use is only possible if the nozzle and valve are cleaned before the foam cures.
-
Users must wear protective gloves.
-
Do not insert objects into the valve to clear blockages.
-
Transport upright, secured and out of direct sunlight.
