Envirorend Basecoat is a reinforcing and levelling basecoat for use with reinforcement mesh within SPS Envirowall External Wall Insulation and RendaClad render carrier board systems. It is applied directly to insulation or RendaClad boards to create a prepared surface for subsequent finishes. Suitable for use as part of SPS Envirowall façade systems where a basecoat layer is required.
Envirorend Basecoat is a factory-blended reinforcing and levelling basecoat designed for application over insulation or RendaClad boards within SPS Envirowall External Wall Insulation and RendaClad render carrier board systems. It is supplied in 25kg paper sacks and is intended for use in combination with reinforcing mesh to form a stable base layer for thin-coat, dash, brick slip or brick-effect finishes.
Composition and Packaging
The product is factory blended, tested and packaged in accordance with BS EN ISO 9001 quality control procedures. It is supplied in 25kg paper sacks, palletised in quantities of 40 bags and shrink-wrapped. Bags must be stored unopened in dry conditions and can be kept for up to 6 months; opened bags should be used promptly.
Application and Use
The basecoat is mixed with clean water following the instructions on the bag, including standing and re-whisking periods to ensure the polymers are evenly dispersed. Due to its formulation, it cannot be applied by pumping machine.
It is applied to a sound substrate using a stainless steel trowel to an overall thickness of 3–5mm, which includes a 1–2mm slurry coat. The applied layer is combed with a toothed trowel to achieve consistent depth before embedding the specified reinforcing mesh. Mesh must be placed in the upper section of the basecoat with minimum horizontal and vertical overlaps of 100mm. Additional mesh pieces (minimum 300×500mm) must be bedded diagonally across corners of all wall openings. Internal corner reveal reinforcing mesh strips must return 150mm from the corner of window and door reveals.
A 1–2mm slurry coat is then applied and sponged to prepare the surface for thin-coat finishes or keyed to receive dash, brick slips or brick-effect render finishes. The basecoat must be allowed to dry and shrink for approximately 2 days in suitable drying conditions before primer and topcoat are applied.
Substrate and Environmental Requirements
Substrates must be sound, clean, dry and free from materials that could impair adhesion. Application must not take place when substrate or environmental temperatures fall below +5°C or on frozen surfaces. Users should avoid working in direct sunlight and protect the façade from heavy rain or rapid drying. Covering the scaffold or façade is recommended to control drying conditions.
Consumption
Approximate consumption is 4.5kg/m² depending on the line and level of the application surface.
Handling, Cleaning and Safety
Tools and equipment must be cleaned with water immediately after use. Adjacent building elements such as windows and sills must be protected during application. For health and safety information and disposal guidance, refer to the relevant Material Safety Data Sheet.
Storage and Disposal
The product must be kept in dry conditions. Disposal must follow local requirements; material should not be released into soil, watercourses or drains. Recycling or responsible disposal routes should be used where available.
