503 Premium SBR Bond is a high-performance latex-based bonding agent and admixture for use in screeds, renders and tile applications. It enhances water resistance, adhesion, and flexibility while reducing surface dusting and permeability. Resistant to freeze-thaw cycles and compatible with multiple cement types, it’s ideal for use in damp or external environments where durability and bond strength are essential.
503 Premium SBR Bond is a specially formulated, latex-based admixture and bonding agent designed to improve the performance of cementitious mixes in environments subject to water exposure, humidity, or dampness. This multi-functional product from SPS Envirowall significantly enhances the mechanical and chemical properties of screeds, mortars, and renderings, offering a robust solution for demanding construction conditions.
As an admixture, 503 Premium SBR Bond reduces the water-to-cement ratio without sacrificing workability, contributing to improved compressive strength and reduced permeability. The product forms a reinforcing polymer matrix within the mix, significantly increasing its flexibility and long-term durability. This makes it especially suitable for areas prone to structural movement, thermal expansion, or impact.
As a bonding agent, the product provides exceptional adhesion to various substrates including dense concrete, tiles, and steel. Unlike traditional PVA-based bonding agents, it remains effective under wet conditions, making it an ideal choice for exterior applications or substrates in contact with moisture.
Key advantages include:
-
Excellent resistance to water, water vapour and chemical ingress
-
Greatly improved adhesion and flexibility
-
Superior toughness, reducing the risk of cracking
-
Thinner screed applications for material savings and weight reduction
-
Strong resistance to dusting, salt permeation and abrasion
-
Freeze-thaw stability and improved frost resistance
In flooring applications, the use of 503 Premium SBR Bond facilitates the creation of slip-resistant, chemical-resistant screeds with reduced drying times. It acts as a reliable underlay for epoxy coatings and other floor finishes.
Application & Installation Considerations
503 Premium SBR Bond is versatile in use:
-
As an admixture for screeds, mortars and renders
-
As a bonding agent between layers or to substrates
-
As a primer/sealer for tiling
-
To enhance flexibility of cement-based adhesives on challenging substrates like wood or asphalt
Substrate preparation is critical. Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of contaminants. For floor applications, mechanical surface preparation is recommended (e.g., shot blasting) to achieve a clean, aggregate-exposed finish. Proper joint placement and strength (e.g., >30N/mm² compressive) are also important for long-term performance.
Mixing should be done in a forced action mixer with careful control of water addition. Overwatering may cause over-thinning due to the plasticising effects of the latex. The pot life of mixed material is approximately 30 minutes, so batch size should match application speed.
Application of the topping or screed should be done over wet or tacky primer using a steel float, followed by curing for 1–2 days. Proper curing is essential for performance.
503 Premium SBR Bond is compatible with Portland, High Alumina, and sulphate-resisting cements. It should not be used with air-entraining agents and is not suitable for decorative exterior renders that will remain uncoated, due to poor UV resistance.
SPS Envirowall supports environmentally responsible practices. The plastic containers (500ml to 25L), lids, and wire handles are fully recyclable under environmental site schemes.
