Cement’in C+G is a premixed lime/cement-based dry mortar used as a water-repellent basecoat for mineral or organic finishing coats and as a preparation layer before tiling. It is suitable for application on stable, pre-moistened vertical substrates including brick, blockwork and concrete, where the mechanical characteristics of the substrate meet or exceed those of the mortar. Suitable for use as a basecoat within façade systems where a defined render build-up is required.
Cement’in C+G is a factory-mixed dry mortar containing Portland cement, lime, graded river sand, additives and admixtures. It is intended for use as a water-repellent basecoat beneath mineral or organic finishing systems, and it may also be used as a basecoat prior to tiling. The product has defined mechanical characteristics, vapour permeability and fire performance. It is compliant with EN 998-1 and carries the SECO quality certificate.
Field of Application
The mortar is suitable for use on vertical substrates such as brick, blockwork and concrete, provided these substrates are stable, clean and capable of meeting the mechanical requirements relative to Cement’in C+G. Substrates with high or mixed porosity should receive a prior coating of Cement’in P, while smooth concrete requires Betoprim pretreatment.
It must not be applied to gypsum plaster, previously painted surfaces or surfaces that have been waterproofed. Weak substrates such as lightweight concrete or old masonry built with weak mortars are not recommended for this product.
Characteristics and Performance
Cement’in C+G is a water-repellent basecoat with defined mechanical and physical properties:
-
Grain size: 0–2.0mm
-
Dry density (powder): approximately 1700kg/m³
-
Compressive strength: ≥4MPa
-
Bond strength on brick: ≥0.3MPa
-
Bond strength after cycle: ≥0.2MPa
-
Flexural strength: ≥1.4MPa
-
Water vapour permeability coefficient µ: 10–15
-
Water absorption class: W1
-
Reaction to fire classification: A1
These values identify the performance characteristics relevant to façade preparation layers and render build-ups.
Preparation of Substrate
Substrates must be stable, sound, clean and free from dust. They should always be pre-moistened, with excess water allowed to drain off before application. Conditions for use are defined as follows:
-
Substrate and ambient temperature must be between 5°C and 30°C.
-
Do not apply to frozen, thawing, or imminently freezing substrates.
-
Freshly applied material must be protected from rain, wind and strong sunlight.
In hot, dry or windy conditions, dampening of the surface may be required to prevent rapid drying.
Mixing
Cement’in C+G must be mixed mechanically using 4.5–5.5 litres of clean water per 30kg bag. Suitable equipment includes an electric mortar mixer, cement mixer or mixing pump. Foreign additives must not be added.
The open time is approximately 1 hour at 20°C. Mortar that has begun to harden must not be remixed or reused.
Application
The product can be applied manually or by mechanical spray in one or two coats. The average applied thickness is 12–15mm. The fresh render should be levelled and compressed with a trowel according to consistency.
A reinforcement mesh (metal or glass fibre) may be incorporated within the basecoat where required. Drying time before overcoating with an organic render or paint is defined as one day per millimetre of thickness.
Protection from heavy rain, direct sunlight and drying winds is required during the curing period.
Consumption
Consumption is approximately 17kg/m² per centimetre of thickness.
Packaging and Storage
Cement’in C+G is supplied in 25kg bags on 1200kg shrink-wrapped Euro pallets. When stored dry in unopened original packaging, the shelf life is 9 months.
Compliance and Certification
The product is:
-
Compliant with EN 998-1
-
Compliant with CSTC provisions
-
Compliant with French standard NF P15201 and DTU 26.1
-
Holder of the SECO quality certificate
These accreditations relate to the defined scope of the material as a basecoat render.
